ADDRESS:
Swim Creek Station, Harold Knowles Road, Point Stuart, Northern Territory 0800.
LOCATION:
Bamurru Plains is located on the edge of the Mary River floodplains, just a short distance from the coast and western boundary of Kakadu National Park. It is just a 20 minute flight by light aircraft from Darwin airport or Kakadu National Park; or 3 hours' drive from Darwin or 2.5 hours from Jabiru (Kakadu National Park).
You may self-drive to Bamurru Plains, but as the property is a working buffalo station, you will be required to leave your vehicle at the entrance of the property, from where you will be picked up by a staff member for the 20 minute drive back to camp.
The floodplains of the Mary River region form one of the most significant ecosystems in Australia. Dominated by the climatic extremes of the tropical monsoon, the wetlands and savannah woodlands that fringe the coastal regions between Darwin and Kakadu National Park harbour host an extraordinarily diverse range of flora and fauna.
DESCRIPTION:
Bamurru Plains offers 'Wild Bush Luxury' - a term coined to encapsulate the style of experience to be found here. The focus of your stay at Bamurru Plains is the environment around you and the wildlife for whom it is home. Each individual safari suite is designed to blend with the surrounding bush and as such will expose you to the sights and sounds of the bush around you, whether it is the haunting call of a Whistling Kite, the raucous cacophony from the Blue-winged Kookaburras as dawn breaks, or the sound of a full grown buffalo splashing its way through the floodplains just a short distance from your bed. The morning chorus of tens of thousands of Magpie Geese, after whom the camp is named, is an experience in itself.
With just 9 freestanding safari suites built amongst the savannah bush fringing the floodplains, Bamurru Plains is truly exclusive. Each safari suite with ensuite is raised on a timber platform, with space for sitting out the heat of the day with a good book or watching the local wildlife.
With no telephones, TVs, CD players or the typical features of a hotel room to distract you, your focus turns to the spectacular surrounding environment. The concept is simple - Bamurru Plains have focused on key creature comforts - a supremely comfy bed with 100% cotton linen, large soft bath towels, a high-pressure shower and lots of space. Meals in the lodge building are wholesome and innovative with a hint of native produce in many dishes. Your hosts will provide an informal level of attention that is only possible in an intimate setting such as this. It is their knowledge of the area that brings this experience to life!
You can also enjoy a wide variety of activities at Bamurru Plains, including trips on the Sampan River, animal viewing, crocodile cruises, airboat trips, and four wheel drive safaris. Helicopter flights are available at an additional cost. Kakadu and Arnhem Land are also easily accessed in a day trip from Bamurru Plains.
