Lieutenant James Cook went ashore near Round Hill Head, Town of 1770 on Wednesday 24 May 1770. A party of men accompanied by Joseph Banks and Dr Solander went ashore to examine the country. Cook anchored his vessel, the Endeavour, about 2 miles offshore. This was to be Cook's first landing in Queensland, hence the Town of 1770 is referred to as 'the birthplace of Queensland'. It is surrounded by National Parks on 3 sides and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park on the 4th.
Town of 1770 is situated approx 5.5 hours north of Brisbane by road and a 1.25 hour drive from Bundaberg or Gladstone airports. The Beach Shacks are located right in the Town of 1770 Proper, across the road from the estuary and within 5 minutes walk of the marina.

The Beach Shacks in Town of 1770 are unique in appearance and atmosphere. They offer exquisite self-contained accommodation, with spacious, opulent tropical architecture with extensive use of local and imported timbers, and spectacular water views from every level.
These exotic bungalows are designed to be opened to the tropical breezes. The lounge and dining area, with kitchen overlooks the wide deck, as does the master bedroom. Some even have a second bedroom should you wish to share the experience with some friends.
Enjoy the many fishing spots, bush walks, secluded beaches and reef cruises in the area. The Great Barrier Reef is at your doorstep. Town of 1770 is the closest departure point north of Brisbane, with tours everyday to the reef.
