DESCRIPTION:
Paperbark Camp is eco-tourism at its best, providing a beautiful and serene base from which to explore Jervis Bay. Placed thoughtfully amongst the soaring eucalypts and intriguing paperbark trees, the canvas safari style tents offer privacy and comfort, whilst at the same time providing a truly unique bush 'camping' experience.
The 12 tents are built off the ground on their own timber platform, providing natural ventilation and the perfect spot to while away the afternoon with a book, massage or just watching the local birdlife. Solar-powered lighting, insect screens, comfy beds with luxury cotton linen and your own indoor/outdoor ensuite with hot shower ensure this will be a holiday like no other!
But for the ultimate in luxury camping, spoil yourself in one of the Deluxe Safari Tents tucked away from the main camp and featuring a large private verandah with lounge and freestanding bath-with-a-view, creating a romantic candlelit oasis amongst the gum trees.
The Gunyah (aboriginal for meeting place, or place of shelter) is at the heart of the camp. Designed by Sydney architects, Nettleton Tribe, it is a chic space built high off the ground to enjoy the sea breeze and a wonderful position amongst the treetops. In Summer, the sliding doors open up for outdoor dining on the verandah, providing a bushy backdrop from which to enjoy meals and observe the goings on of the resident possums, sugar gliders and birds. In Winter, an open fire and candlelight bring warmth to the room, and cosy lounges are a perfect place for curling up on after dinner. The Gunyah is also open to non-resident guests 7 nights a week for dinner. When booking, please advise of any particular dietary requirements you may have, in order that they may cater accordingly. The Gunyah is closed for the winter months of July and August.
Activities at Paperbark Camp include canoeing, bike riding, bushwalking, birdwatching and spotlighting. Or spend an afternoon on the verandah reading that book you've been meaning to get to for ages, keeping an eye out for a passing kangaroo, or the majestic black cockatoo.
Jervis Bay itself offers spectacular diving, snorkeling, bushwalking in the Booderee National Park, beautiful beaches, surfing, dolphin, whale and seal watching, golf and tennis. A short scenic drive away is Arthur Boyd's 'Bundanon', local vineyards with cellar doors, as well as the pretty towns of Berry and Kangaroo Valley.
Paperbark Camp offers tranquillity, seclusion and relaxation, in a unique and comfortable environment - a welcome retreat from today's hectic world. If you have a slightly adventurous spirit and appreciate good food, great hospitality and the simple joys of life, then you'll love snuggling up at Paperbark Camp.
