Medusa

ADDRESS:

267 Darlinghurst Road, Darlinghurst, New South Wales 2010.

LOCATION:

Medusa is located on a quiet section of Darlinghurst Road between busy William Street and the even busier Oxford Street. Darlinghurst is an urban village similar to New York's 'Soho', with a unique inner city vibe where the locals are black clad youth leaders, who include artists, independent filmmakers and designers. 100 years ago it was lined with the mansions of Australia's early gentry. Today it still has a number of mansions, however it is more famous for its cafe society, bohemian culture and eclectic mix of the old and the new.

Elevated above the city, Darlinghurst is the centrepiece of the surrounding inner city suburbs, Paddington, Surry Hills, East Sydney, Potts Point, Kings Cross and Elizabeth Bay. The CBD, the Harbour and Opera House are all within walking distance of Medusa - the perfect location for those who wish to interact with the creative locals and enjoy themselves - totally.

Taxis are plentiful, Kings Cross Railway Station is a 5 minute walk and buses to Circular Quay, the CBD and Sydney Harbour Ferries stop right outside Medusa's door. Sydney's Kingsford Smith Airport is also an easy 15 minute taxi ride.

DESCRIPTION:

Medusa in Sydney has received numerous awards for its interior architecture and personalised service, including in Gourmet Traveller, where it received the prize for Innovation in Travel. It was also voted by the international travel bible, Condé Nast Traveller as - "one of the coolest hotels of the 21st Century".

Sophisticated travellers have long enjoyed the indulgent pleasure of boutique hotels all over the world, such as Costes in Paris and The Mercer in New York. Sydney's luxury hotel with "cult status" is Medusa.

Proprietors Terry and Robert Schwamberg were determined to create Sydney's first contemporary, luxury boutique hotel with the introduction of Medusa. With the appointment of award-winning Sydney architect, Scott Weston who has since received further architectural and design awards for this stylish hotel, Medusa is a Sydney institution, popular with the creative set from advertising, film, fashion and design.

In appreciation of the modern and the classic, the design team pared away all the non-essential elements of a 'traditional' hotel, which included dark corridors, wall paneling, conservative furnishings and loud signage. Medusa today is light, fresh and minimalist. It features stunning mixtures of timbers, a magnificent 'paper' chandelier, a feature colour wall and extraordinary joinery throughout.

The rooms at Medusa have king or queen size beds and luxurious Aveda amenities. Many of the rooms overlook the central courtyard with its dramatic sculpture fountain and reflection pool. At Medusa, the X factor is obvious at first sight, whether it be the sincere smile, fresh flowers, or the service that evokes personality. Medusa is also the only luxury hotel that welcomes guest's dogs in the beautiful courtyard rooms.
